Blog 7 The politics of Service Learning

Connections : The politics of Service Learning While reading this article it reminded me of Amazing Grace By Johnathan Kozol. This article was talking about poor people just like Amazing Grace was. However in this article they were talking about how high school kids do community service and help out the poor. When in Amazing Grace it was talking about the poor people and how the poor people get free lunches at school. Another article that I can bestly connect it to is the Kristof Article. In the Kristof Article they talked about parents incomes and children's poverty. I think that all high schools even middle schoolers should do community service hours for the poor. I think it would make poor families feel better and make them feel happy that people want to help them.  I think it was great for students to interact with those less fortunate than themselves. They experienced things that I have not even experienced. I had to do community service for a graduation requirement b...

I choose option one for this week. I read about Gender and the 2018 election. I thought that these articles would have been more interesting than they actually were. I found them pretty boring. We have been learning and reading about Gender so I wanted to read more about it.      The first article I read was Soloways article. This was about locker rooms and what goes on in locker rooms. It was kind of interesting because I am a girl and reading what goes on in a men's locker room you would have never known what goes on in there. As the article stated when men are alone together, they assess and talk about and point to women and girls that they don't know. The article mentioned that most violence done on this planet is done by men. Which I think is true. What I found so funny and didn't realize it until I read it. But on Sundays what do you think of when you hear the word "Sunday." First word that popped up in your head was most likely not God. It was probably foo...

Journal number 5    Quotes    There were some quotes in this article called Safe Spaces,  that really stood out to me and I feel like they need to be shared to others.    “ Youth who struggle with Lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender identities or who are bullied for the perception of being different often feel as if they have nowhere to turn.”  With this quote I feel like children should just feel  like themselves. Sometimes I see teachers in daycare setting making fun of little boys who play with dolls and they even tell them to go play with the  blocks. I feel like they should just let them play where they want to play.    “Death should NEVER be an option. ” If you know someone who is sad and says they want to kill themselves, you need to speak with them. Ignoring the problem will make things worse.    Another quote that stood out to me was, “For many youths people suicide feels like a b...
Blog 4 Hyperlinks             In the article “Unlearning the Myths that Bind Us” talked about a lot of myths that cartoons do and people believe it all. People think that cartoons actually mess up the child’s brain. I mean as a child I don’t think ANY cartoon made me a different person, I don’t think the princesses made me realize that life isn’t like a fairytale. I honestly don’t think kids understand until they get a little bit older what the story is really about then by that time they know it’s just a movie and life isn’t really like a fairytale. In the article it said that there’s never any Asian or Hispanic people in cartoons. Honestly growing up I never realized there was no black princess until Princess and the Frog came out. Now we have Moana that children now love.   I have a link here that I never knew what the show really was about until like just now while reading them and they are all shows that were pop...
