In the
article “Unlearning the Myths that Bind Us” talked about a lot of myths that
cartoons do and people believe it all. People think that cartoons actually mess
up the child’s brain. I mean as a child I don’t think ANY cartoon made me a
different person, I don’t think the princesses made me realize that life isn’t like
a fairytale. I honestly don’t think kids understand until they get a little bit
older what the story is really about then by that time they know it’s just a
movie and life isn’t really like a fairytale. In the article it said that there’s
never any Asian or Hispanic people in cartoons. Honestly growing up I never
realized there was no black princess until Princess and the Frog came out. Now
we have Moana that children now love. I
have a link here that I never knew what the show really was about until like
just now while reading them and they are all shows that were popular when I was
a kid.
The next link is about how children pick up on violence while
watching this show. SpongeBob I honestly do not like that show at all. I think
that is the one show that I can’t stand. Tom and Jerry is said to be violent. I
honestly don’t think children would pick up violence from Tom and Jerry. It’s a
cat and a mouse not people beating up each other.
In the article
it said that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is also violent for kids. Which I can
understand why because they use weapons and things.
Question:
Do you think that these shows change the child’s attitudes?
I liked reading all the things that your links showed. I also really did not like Spongebob at all. It is true that most TV shows for kids seem to be excessively violent, in terms for kids.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that shows can change a child attitude. I always see kids trying to imitate their favorite characters. I believe that as long as there is an adult to show the child right from wrong and talk about the issues of violence and race, then there is a less chance that it will become a problem when they become an adult.
