Blog #11 Shor

Shor made some really good points in this article, But I wasn't interested in it while reading it. It was pretty Blah and not that interesting, it was a hard article to get thru as I was reading it, it didn't keep my interest. What I found interesting was when it said Primary grade teachers, devote time to problems of socialization. One of the things I didn't really realize until I read this article was that the most important things that children learn are NOT the 3 R's, its socialization. I agree with the author that one good way to start off the school year is asking students why we go to school? For High Schoolers and middle schoolers teachers should be asking this, I was asked it like every year in the beginning of school years. Then as I got older we had to write a paragraph or a paper on why do we go to school and why is it important. It Shows students that they can trust you. I know that every teacher that asked me that question they are the ones that helped ...

Social Justice Event

I attended the movie "Matt Shepard is a friend of Mine." It was a few weeks ago but I have not had the time to write about it yet. This documentary was about a gay young man. He was tortured and was murdered. Matt died in 1998. He was Dolly Parton one year for Halloween which was probably a huge hint for people that he was gay. His guidance counselor was one of the first people he has told before his own parents, and friends. Matt was afraid that his parents would disown him and reject him. Matt to me I feel like he was a pretty popular boy. He had a lot of friends and he traveled the world so much. He was very adventurous. He loved people and loved making people happy.  Matt loved politics, he wanted to become a actor, he was in many plays. He wanted to change things about the world. He wanted to build a Church. When Matt died his friend still feels guilty and angry because she didn't get to do anything to help him. She has saved all his stuff pictures and letters for me...

In the Kliewer article Mia noticed that she didn't like the classes she was taking. She had to go thru special education her whole life. She wanted to take classes that interested her. I agree with Mia. I hate taking classes that are not interesting to me. It makes the semester and days go by so slow. Mia felt mad and like she wanted to cry. I don't feel that way unless its math class. Math classes bore me and I cant stand math and it stresses me out so much. Success in life requires ability to form relationships with others who make up the web of community. We all have to learn how to get along with others. If we don't get along with others our lives would be miserable. Just think about it. I know most of us probably have had coworkers that we can not stand and once you don't get along going to work is a struggle. Even when we don't like each other we should still try to get along with one another. It will make your lives better. Shoshone is a parent run scho...

Blog 9 " Tracking why schools need to take another route"   I haven't done a blog about responding to a peers blog yet so I am going to do it this week since I know that Emily is ahead of all her blogs! The first article is about how they tracked two schools. Some parents are for keeping track of students scores because they want their kids to be successful.  I basically agree with everything that Emily says. I totally think that tracking students is so unfair. I agree that they probably will end up quitting school and they probably will feel like such a failure. If parents just minded their own business and gave their child some space it would be a lot easier for the kid. The parents are just stressing out their child. I agree with Emily that college is not for everyone. I hate school myself, I am not good at it, I work my butt of for my good grades. I think of how much I hate school and how much I work my butt off some days I feel like just quitting some days. B...

Blog #8 The Problem We All Live With Video             This video was very interesting. It was hard to follow because I am a visual learner rather than just hearing a person talk for the whole time. In the Audio it said in 2003 there are good schools, bad schools, and this is when No child left behind came out. Bad schools never caught up to the good schools, which makes sense because bad schools have bad quality of teachers. In the audio that I listened to they quoted “Bad schools are black, and Latino and the good schools are mostly white.” I don’t think that its right to even say that. They have been trying to get black and white students to go in the same schools for a long time. Now a days all schools are combined with all different nationalities. Data shows in the subject reading blacks were tested 39% worse than white kids.             Data also shows that when...

Blog 7 The politics of Service Learning

Connections : The politics of Service Learning While reading this article it reminded me of Amazing Grace By Johnathan Kozol. This article was talking about poor people just like Amazing Grace was. However in this article they were talking about how high school kids do community service and help out the poor. When in Amazing Grace it was talking about the poor people and how the poor people get free lunches at school. Another article that I can bestly connect it to is the Kristof Article. In the Kristof Article they talked about parents incomes and children's poverty. I think that all high schools even middle schoolers should do community service hours for the poor. I think it would make poor families feel better and make them feel happy that people want to help them.  I think it was great for students to interact with those less fortunate than themselves. They experienced things that I have not even experienced. I had to do community service for a graduation requirement b...

I choose option one for this week. I read about Gender and the 2018 election. I thought that these articles would have been more interesting than they actually were. I found them pretty boring. We have been learning and reading about Gender so I wanted to read more about it.      The first article I read was Soloways article. This was about locker rooms and what goes on in locker rooms. It was kind of interesting because I am a girl and reading what goes on in a men's locker room you would have never known what goes on in there. As the article stated when men are alone together, they assess and talk about and point to women and girls that they don't know. The article mentioned that most violence done on this planet is done by men. Which I think is true. What I found so funny and didn't realize it until I read it. But on Sundays what do you think of when you hear the word "Sunday." First word that popped up in your head was most likely not God. It was probably foo...
